Weekend in San Diego Part 4: Final Thoughts

So our short 3 day weekend to San Diego was winding down and far too soon for my taste!  Here are the last few things that we did and things we saw:

Seaport Village

Seaport Village is a unique shopping area.  It is made up of 50-plus unique shops and 17 restaurants.  It has a beautiful view of the harbor and is just a really neat place to spend a few hours.  Since I was there at Christmas time it was an awesome place to shop for some very unique Christmas gifts! It's definitely different than what you would find in a local mall.  We spent quite a bit of time at the California Candle Company.  They made beautiful candles and each one was a work of art. Had lunch at one of the many restaurants there.  We sat outside and had a beautiful view of the harbor while we ate.  Seaport Village is located downtown at Harbor Drive and Pacific Highway.  There is parking there.  The first 2 hours of parking are $1.00 with a purchase and then it's $4.00/hour afterward.  It was a great way to spend a few hours.  I didn't get to even touch most of the shops in the time that I was there.  It's definitely a more "touristy" area but one that I would love to go back and explore a little deeper!  I would recommend a stop here if you can fit it into your schedule.

Here is the website for Seaport Village if you'd like to find out more about it:  http://www.seaportvillage.com/

Ruth's Chris San Diego

Ok...so if you know me at all or have read any of my blogs, you know that food is important to us on a vacation!  While we visit many restaurants one of our favorites is Ruth's Chris Steakhouse.  Wherever we travel to, one of the first things we do is check the Ruth's Chris website to see if there is a location in the city that we are visiting and then we make reservations!  We are trying to hit them all....probably won't happen but...hey it's worth a try!  If you haven't been to a Ruth's Chris Steakhouse, you must try it!  Steak, of course is their specialty.  They sear the steak in an 1800 degree oven and serve them with fresh melted butter and salt and pepper.  You can hear your steak sizzling before it arrives at your table!  The menu is ala carte and can be pricy depending on what you purchase.  Usually our bill for two of us with filets, salads and sides and desserts runs around $125.00 plus tip just to give you an idea of what you would be looking at.  If you are adding wine or cocktails, that number goes up.  We have always found the experience to be excellent.  Some restaurants have minor differences (like breads and dessert offerings) but generally you can count on a good meal and service.

View of the Harbor from Ruth's Chris Steakhouse San Diego

We went to the Ruth's Chris in San Diego (there was one in the Del Mar area also which we did not get to go to....another good reason to go back!!!) which was located on North Harbor Drive.  I have to say that this particular Ruth's Chris was amazing.  The food and service were wonderful.  The location across the street from the harbor was beautiful.  The restaurant was large and seated many people but the atmosphere was cozy and intimate.  I would definitely recommend this Ruth's Chris if you are looking for a great steak!

All Good Things Must Come to an End

So our short getaway trip to San Diego had come to an end.  I really wasn't sure what to expect when I signed on to go out for the weekend.  We had driven down from Huntington Beach on a previous trip and had driven across the Coronado bridge which was beautiful and amazing but hadn't really seen anything of the city itself.  This was a wonderful preview trip and showed me how much I want to go back and see more and revisit some of the places that we saw and spend a little more time!  It was a great way to sample the city but I left feeling as though I wanted to spend much more time in this amazing place!  My husband just mentioned the other day that he may have to visit a company in the La Jolla area soon and I know my eyes lit up as I was begging to go back for more!

San Diego is a wonderful city, with wonderful weather and terrific things to see!  I would advise anyone to make plans to visit the city whether it is for a weekend or longer!
